Mechanical expertise and capabilities since 1994
IRV AS is an independent supplier specializing in the prefabrication, welding, and installation of piping systems and steel structures. From our base in Kristiansund, we serve the oil and gas industry, the maritime sector, power plants, the food industry, and general land-based industries. We have made targeted investments in automated welding processes, our own welding procedures (WPS), and the ongoing training of our skilled workers to meet the industry’s most stringent requirements.
Production Infrastructure and Workshop Capacity
Black Steel Workshop
1,000 m² of optimized workshop space with a cast, heavy-duty industrial floor designed for heavy steel structures and carbon steel.
Stainless Steel Workshop
300 m² of fully separate workshop space dedicated to high-alloy materials, stainless steel, titanium, and specialty metals.
Integrated NDT Bunker
A separate bunker with its own darkroom for developing X-ray film. The bunker is operated in collaboration with a third party and is equipped for MT/PT, RT/UT/ET, and PMI material verification.
Logistics and Follow-Up
Outdoor storage directly at Vestbase, as well as established partnerships with local companies for pressure testing and surface treatment.
Our History and Background
The workshop has been located at Vestbase in Kristiansund since 1994. The facility was originally established and operated by Aker Solutions. The business was acquired by AAK IRV in 2009 and eventually changed its name to IRV AS in 2017. Although ownership and the name have changed, the technical focus, high-quality welding, and operational expertise have remained the same for over 30 years.
Machinery and Technical Equipment
Our machinery is designed for both heavy-duty mechanical projects and component manufacturing with tight tolerances:
Cutting
1 Messer plasma and gas cutting machine with a table capacity of 2 x 6 meters. 3 band saws with a maximum cutting diameter of Ø500 mm.
Shaping and Processing
Pipe bending machine and column drill for mechanical fabrication.
Welding Equipment
Modern welding machines from Kemppi for TIG, MIG, MAG, and electrode welding.
Welding Automation and Robotic Solutions
1 Tip-Tig welding robot (specialized in surfacing/cladding of wear surfaces), 1 orbital welding machine, and electronic surveying using total stations.
Rotary Equipment
4 ESAB rotary welding tables (turntables) with a 1.5-metric-ton capacity, as well as 1 set of rotary roll benders with a 3-metric-ton capacity.

IRV AS is fully certified by Kiwa and accredited by Norsk Akkreditering (Norwegian Accreditation). Our processes meet the strictest requirements for management systems, welding quality, and production, ensuring full traceability in every project.
